"1000 Books Before Kindergarten" Program

Many of our youngest patrons have already been participating in our "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" Program.  Parents of these young readers have been recording the books they read to their kids on sheets we've provided in 100 book increments.  Each 100 books read earns the child a sticker for themselves and for our chart.  At the 1000 book level, the children receive a certificate and a free book honoring their achievement.

Through the generous support of the law firm of Luh and Associates in conjunction with the App Development Team of Writepole LLC, the 1000 Books Foundation has released a "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" App for Apple and Android devices.  This free app makes the program that much easier by allowing users to scan the books their kids read.  It is also possible to track multiple readers.

You may obtain this free app through your device's store and instructions on how to use it are provided through the following link:  iPhone and Android App Instructions (.html)

We hope that this new, easier way to participate in this program will encourage even more of our young readers to read 1000 books. The East Troy Lions Public Library has a wonderful selection of preschool books to choose from that are perfect for this program.  You may still sign up at the library and check in with us at every 100 books read to have your child chart their progress and obtain their stickers.   And of course, once those 1000 books have been read, stop by to obtain your child's certificate and free book.
StoryTime

Terrific Thursdays @ the East Troy Lions Public Library

Almost every Thursday afternoon, at 3:00 and 4:00, we have special programs for kids.  At 3:00, we bring out our Legos.  We have Duplos, standard-sized bricks, Lego WeDos (on loan from the East Troy Community School District), and Lego Mindstorms, so we really do have something for every age group.  The WeDo and Mindstorm sets are meant to introduce kids to basic concepts of computer programming by incorporating programmable "smart bricks" (e.g. motors, switches, etc.) with software programs that uses graphical "programming blocks" (so that users do not need to learn a complicated programmng language, like C++).  The target age for the WeDo sets is about age 7 to 9, and the target age for the Mindstorm set is age 11+.  Lego building time is a "drop in" program, meaning that no registration is needed.

Every other week at 3:00, we also have a special visitor -- Tucker, our library therapy dog.  Tucker loves attention, kids, and stories.  Stop on by to read him a story, or just say hello.

Stick around at 4:00 for Wii Gaming on our big screen TV.  Please don't bring games from home, as we have a good selection of family friendly games here at the Library.
